Signs, Signs, Everywhere are Signs!.. Especially on Corners
The amount of signs littering the streets this election year is insane. I can understand a few,“Vote for Me!” or “Vote No on Prop. Whatever!” signs posted into the ground but I draw the line when it comes to people standing on the corner holding signs. These people have nothing better to do on their weekends?
I was stuck at a red light last Sunday and on one corner was a Pro Prop 8 group and on the adjacent corner was the Anti Prop 8 group. The pro group had dragged their kids out creating a nice family bonding experience. One of the kids was pretending that his picket sign that read “Marriage is for Men and Women Only” was an axe and chopping at a tree with it.
With the two opposing sides on different corners it kind of felt like competing gas stations. Instead of battling for customers' money they were competing for our votes. I wished one of the groups had Slurpees.
I am always disappointed with the signs they bring. I mean come on people, if your going to stand on the corner with a picket sign it better be more clever then the homeless guy’s sign standing right next to you.
The biggest problem I have with these people is that they actually think this will change peoples’ minds or effect how they vote. I seriously doubt people pull up to a stop sign look over and say to themselves, “You know, that guy is right…Abortion is Murder! Thanks random guy on the corner for totally changing my mind on a upcoming issue that I can vote on!” I just don’t think it works like that.
At the end of the day when the opposing groups both leave their respected corners I like to imagine that they both go to the same place, take out time cards, clock out for the day and meet each other for a drink at a bar. The bartender will ask them both,“How was work today fellas?” and one will respond, “Another day, another dollar.”
